We’re taking a trip down memory lane!
Whether it was the magic of waiting for your Tamagotchi to hatch, or the thrill of recording Top of the Pops on VHS - I really feel like old school technology had more of a vibe.
Vote below and let me know what classic gadget or tech you’d bring back and let me know in the comments if I’ve missed your favourite.
- Floppy disks
- VHS tapes & VCRs
- Polaroid cameras
- Teletext
- Walkman/Discman
- Game Boys
- Old-school landline phones
I feel like I missed the boat on a few of these, I was a bit too young to fully appreciate MiniDiscs and rotary phones. But now that nostalgia is in I’ve definitely treated myself to a Polaroid and an old school digital camera and I’d actually love an old school rotary phone but I just have no use for it
I am weirdly nostalgic for the sound of a modem - the beeps and splutters as you tried to connect and hope and pray to the aptly named demon internet that you’d get a connection…
I remember the old modems and those sounds too. In fact I am old enough to have introduced my son to the wonders of an acoustic coupler which I borrowed from work and attached to the handset of our old rotary phone. I also thought it was technology gone mad when soon after this you could download a 3 minute pop song from one of the earlier bulletin boards in just over 10 minutes!! The only gadget I miss is my old stand-alone vinyl record player which had a large spindle so you could stack about 8 45 rpm singles and they would automatically dop down and play one after the other. About the equivalent of 1 side of an LP without having to get up and change each disc. Although vinyl has made a comeback and turntables are available again, nowhere seems to produce or sell these though. Unless someone knows better…please!!
