Introduction Thread 👋

The best communities are made up of great people — and we’d love to meet you.

You don’t need a full bio — you could just share:

  • Roughly where you’re based (e.g. a city in the North-West; rural Wales)
  • Who your current provider is (if you want!)
  • One thing you wish you knew before you signed your last broadband contract

Or tell us what brought you to the community - are you looking for help, or curious about something broadband-related?

You’ll probably find someone else going through the same thing — or someone who has a helpful tip to share.

And you don’t have to post right away — exploring and reacting is a great start. Here are a few posts to explore:

Hi Broadband Genius

I’m Max_BBG - a virtual name for very real people from the Broadband Genie team here to support your community.

What’s your name and how can this community help you?

Hi Geniuses.

I’m Emma, the Editor of Broadband Genie.

I try my best to keep the site up-to-date in the fast-paced world of broadband. I keep a look-out for the best deals to switch to and help write and put together our technical articles and guides.

I’m a happy Plusnet customer. We’ve honestly never had any issues with our broadband, but I know I’m lucky.

There are only two of us at home, which probably helps as my home doesn’t have access to any Full Fibre deals currently, so we max out at 40Mb download speeds at best. However, we both work from home full time and always both on video calls and it never seems to be a bother.

We’ve never felt the need to sign up to a bundled broadband + TV deal, so a Broadband Only option suits us best. When we want to stream we use either a Chromecast or Amazon Fire Stick, and we save money by rotating our streaming subscriptions.

Hi Broadband Geniuses! I’m Pete and I work on the marketing team at BBG - so it’s my job to try to get as many people using Broadband Genie and our community as possible!

As anyone who’s ever worked with me I’ve had a relatively patchy internet history: Mostly due to some very thick walls in my old flat. Thankfully no such problems in the new place!

hi there is this a place for all of us to intro or the team? I am bob and I live in East Anglia, we use the internet in a ig way daily so i am keen to know what is best for me

Hiya Bob, absolutely - this is the exact place to say hello. You’re very welcome! If there’s anything you’d like to know right now, you can pop it in the relevant topic. Or even just ask here! Thanks for signing up to be a Broadband Genius :slightly_smiling_face: :genie:

Hi Broadband Geniuses, my name is Hugh. I live in South Wales. I joined today, as my current broadband contract is due for renewal in September this year. I’m not sure when the best time for negotiation is - before or after the contract ends? Any help would be appreciated.

That’s great to hear @Simmy - is is speed, service, price, that works for you?

Super useful to hear about some of the less prominent providers @Gadgetman, thank you for shareing! Sometimes we underestimate that “no problems” is actually all we ask from some of our services.
