Has anyone noticed their broadband acting up during the recent hot weather?
It might sound strange, but high temperatures can actually affect your internet connection. We’re talking:
- Around a 3% drop in download speeds during very hot days
- And up to a 27% dip in upload speeds when things get really warm
The reasons?
- Heat can make your router or the local network equipment work harder (and slower)
- Electronics don’t love high temperatures — especially in stuffy cupboards or sunlit windowsills
- And with more people indoors using the internet, the network can get a bit congested too
Quick tips to help:
- Keep your router somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight
- Don’t tuck it behind other electronics or inside closed cabinets
- Restart your router if it seems sluggish — especially if it’s an older model
- Try using a wired (Ethernet) connection if you’re gaming or working from home
- Cut down on unnecessary devices using the WiFi during peak hours
