Have you managed to dodge the broadband price hikes?

Heads up if you’re with BT, Virgin Media, TalkTalk, Plusnet, or Vodafone – did you know most major providers hike their prices on March 31st or April 1st each year?

And these price hikes are getting worse every year.

The good news? Often, providers will waive the year’s price rise for new customers. This looks like it’s becoming an annual pattern.

Why this matters: Switch in time and you’ll only face one price increase during your contract, and not for as long as 13 months. It’s the longest you can possibly go without having to face a price rise. Look for deals advertised with ‘no price rise in 2027’ now, or check for sign-up bonuses that offset future rises.

Unless you’re with a provider offering a fixed-price promise, these April hikes are unavoidable if you stay put. But switching in March could save you tons of money over an 18-24 month contract.

Have you done this in the past?

Or has this given you food for thought for next year?

My Virgin price hikes seem to happen regularly. I hadn’t noticed a pattern before, but will look back and see when they raise it.

Might finally do something about switching this year, if I can successfully unbundle my TV package.

I recently made the jump from Virgin Media to Vodafone back in February. Even though I’ll still be facing a price rise this year, my monthly bill is half of what I was paying at Virgin, so I’ll definitely take that as a win!

Yes I have!
I’m with BT and they annoyed me with this - usually a quid each April is not worth the effort.
But shopping around I found I found MY tariff - 150 at prices £4 cheaper - which created a £5 range.
So I signed up to the cheaper option with a new email.
New kit arrived, sign in with new email and all is well

I’m with BT, and they upped my Broadband costs by £3 this month. But I’m under contract with them until September this year, so I can’t switch right now without incurring a penalty and paying for the rest of the contract. What I wish is that we are given the option to switch (penalty-free) to a new provider if they raise prices during any contract. That would encourage some to sign up for longer contracts.
