Do awards influence your choice of broadband provider? đŸ„‡

Quick question for everyone - when you see an “award-winning” badge on a broadband provider, does it help you narrow down your decision?

  • Do you look for award winners when you start searching?
  • Is it a “nice to have” when you’ve done some number crunching have a shortlist?
  • Or does it make no difference at all?

We’d welcome your thoughts - or pop your answer in the poll if you prefer!

  • I start my broadband search with looking for award winners
  • Awards are a “nice to have” when I’ve done my own research/have a shortlist
  • Awards make no difference at all to my decision on a broadband provider

Reliability and stability is important to me. I’m then looking for price / performance ratio. I’m currently paying for 900Mbs down. This is probably too much now I’ve taken voluntary redundancy. So I might switch to 500Mbs or 300Mbs. But if it’s only a £few difference per month then I still might go 900Mbs. I hope that explains my logic.

That makes a lot of sense @Juliandc - certainly a lot of day to day activities work perfectly well on the lower bands, so long as you can count on it being around when you need it!

Thanks for sharing your logic - it’s really helpful.

Thanks @Juliandc, that’s really good to know. It’s also something we’re looking into displaying on the website, so do you have any thoughts on what information specifically on reliability would be useful?

For me, it’s more about getting good customer service. I don’t want to be on hold for hours waiting to be connected to a human. However, if they have an award for excellent customer service, I’d certainly check them out first.

I think you should add up a few things: (number of times the service failed) + (number of times you had to contact customer services) + (number of times service slowed) + (billing errors) all per year.
