Christmas tree up ---> broadband speeds down? šŸŽ„

Here’s a ā€œwell I neverā€ wi-fi festive fact - research from Broadband Genie shows that your Christmas tree might be slowing down your broadband.

No, really - pine needles, branches, lights, tinsel, and baubles, can either emit electromagnetic interference or absorb and reflect your router’s signal.

What does this mean for you? Slower speeds and reduced range and very, very bad news for those of us sneaking our 25th rewatch of Muppets Christmas Carol in the spare bedroom. (Or possibly very good news for those of us who would love an excuse to escape another broadcast of Love Actually, actually.)

For one user, downloads were 31% slower and uploads 88% slower. Full research - and practical tips that will let you keep old-fashioned Christmas cheer *and* 21st century connectivity - are here: https://www.broadband.co.uk/blog/20251203-christmas-tree-broadband-speed

Have you got Christmas decorations up? Checked your broadband speed lately (https://www.broadband.co.uk/broadband-speed-test will help)?

That’s fascinating. Our broadband slowed down the week we got our tree up.

I wonder whether it was caused by the lights and decorations, or whether it is because Uni child returned and we’re all online at the same time. Causation? Correlation?
