Did you know? šŸ’” - free parental control tools from your broadband provider

You’ve probably seen that the UK Government plans to block children under 16 from accessing social media platforms.

It’s likely to be some time before changes take effect - but the good news is, your broadband provider already has tools to help.

Under the existing Online Safety Act, every ISP is legally required to offer content filtering - and for most providers it’s just a few clicks to switch on.

The Broadband Genie team have a guide here A Guide to ISP Parental Controls & Online Safety covering Sky, BT, TalkTalk, Virgin and Three - in most cases, searching your provider’s help centre for parental controls will walk you through it, but let us know if you can’t find directions for yours.

If you’ve got children at home and haven’t checked your settings yet, it’s worth five minutes of your time. It won’t catch everything - and mobile data is a different issue - but it adds a useful layer of protection across every device connected to your home Wi-Fi, including games consoles and smart TVs.

Have you set yours up? Did you find it easy? Or will you be taking a look now?
