Most broadband providers bundle things like routers and setup in to their monthly charges - but now providers like BT, EE and PlusNet are bringing back one-off sign-up charges of £20 or £30.
Which do you think is fair? A small up-front fee (which you might not get back if you cancel) or should getting connected be included in your contract?
And have you seen any other sneaky (or fair) charges that worry you?
If companies want our custom they should provide everything that is required to get set up, if they don’t, you should go somewhere else, they’re just greedy.
I would much rather everything is up front, so I know what I am paying. So if I am quoted £20.00 for broadband, it should include any set-up and router fees. Having to pay a separate set-up or router fee at the beginning of the contract would certainly put me off switching to a new provider.
Crumbs, that’s frustrating @Jack_Dunsmuir (and welcome to the community btw!). It really doesn’t make sense, does it - these things have a value, and it’s a pity that they’re going unused (or at least, not recycled).
Most providers will provide a prepaid label to return when the contract ends - we’ve got a guide on How to recycle a Wi-Fi router from BT, Sky, Virgin and more which includes how to sort out returns with BT, TalkTalk, Sky, Virgin, Plusnet and Vodafone, and if you were ever with Vodafone, BT or TalkTalk, they’ll accept equipment from other providers for recycling.
Are you happy to share which providers haven’t picked up (either here or in a DM if you prefer)? We might be able to unearth contact details/advice?
